Terms of use

These terms cover your use of The Road To Dev, operated by Lidema Studios (Pty) Ltd (South Africa). Using the site means accepting them.

Last updated 2026-08-04.

You must be 18 or older

Accounts are for adults. You must be 18 or older to create one, and you confirm that when you sign up. This is a flat floor rather than a graduated one because South African law treats everyone under 18 as a child for data-protection purposes.

Reading the site needs no account at all. A teacher can project lessons, set reading, use the editor on a classroom screen and assign challenges without any pupil holding one — and that is the supported way to use TRTD with a class. We do not offer pupil accounts.

It is free, and it is provided as-is

Everything here is free. Nothing is locked, there is no paid tier, and there is nothing to cancel. In exchange, the service is provided as-is and without warranty: we do not promise it will be available, correct, or fit for any particular purpose, and we are not liable for what follows from relying on it. Keep your own copies of work that matters to you.

We may change, add or retire content and features. Course material is archived rather than deleted where we can, so links keep working.

The course material

Lessons, challenges, quizzes and the rest are ours. Use them to learn, quote them, link to them, and share them with anyone. Please do not republish them wholesale as your own or resell them.

Code you write in the editor is yours. Project repositories are created under your own GitHub account and stay yours whatever happens here.

What you submit and publish

Your public profile, your display name and the project links you submit are visible to anyone once you make them public. By publishing them you confirm they are yours to publish and that they are lawful.

  • Do not impersonate anyone, including us.
  • Do not submit a repository that is not your own work.
  • Do not publish anything unlawful, hateful, or targeting a person.
  • Do not use the site to attack it or anyone else.

Suspension and termination

If a profile or a submitted link breaks the rules above, we can suspend the account. Suspension unpublishes the public profile and any certificate pages. It does not delete anything, and it does not change the visibility settings you chose — lifting it restores exactly what you had.

Anyone can report a profile or a submitted link, including without an account. Reports go to a person, not an automated system.

You can delete your account at any time from your settings. It is immediate and irreversible; what that reaches and what it does not is set out on the privacy page.

Email

Some emails are not optional: the sign-in link, a notice when a new way to sign in is added to your account, and confirmations of things you asked for. Product-update email is separate, off by default, and switched on or off by you.

Changes, and who to talk to

Material changes to these terms are announced on the blog. Questions go to privacy@theroadtodev.com. South African law applies.
